So this week (25th February - 1st March) I have had the pleasure of being able to have the role of teaching assistant in the Music department at Redmoor High School in Hinckley, Leicestershire. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and was involved with helping teach pupils in small groups, giving help and direction and also 1 to 1 work in a class situation. During the week the music department had a concert on the thursday which showcased what the pupils had produced in the music department. Such as performances of Banghra, Gamelan, Rap, carnival and other compositions the pupils had produced themselves in class. I was fortunate enough to be able to take part in performing on the night in one of the compositions. I also did the live sound, lighting and filmed the evening. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole week, however crazy the rehearsing became and felt sad to leave at the end of the week as it gave me a great insight into the roles of a teacher and showed me the satisfaction of watching pupils that you helped construct a piece to then perform it infront of an audience to a great ability.
The head of the Music department Sue Jackson, was kind enough to write a paragraph summarising the time I spent at Redmoor:
"Adam has been a superb help in the department. He thinks for himself and has performed all tasks and activities asked of him. He has had an excellent rapport with the children. He communicates well with the children as well as adults and in my opinion, if he was to continue a career in teaching - he would adapt to this role very well. He has worked well getting the best out of the children in their work this week. A very big thank you to Adam! It has been a delight to work with him this week and he is welcome back to Redmoor for any future experience he may need at any time! Thank you!"
I also have a picture of the equipment I operated on the evening of the concert:
